Artists Question

Wednesday Question
???????????????????
I am getting ready for an exhibit and reception on June 4h.
I was only given 2 weeks to pull it together.....Any sane person would have said no. But, I'm an artist and I want my artwork to be seen.
Today's Question is;
Do you paint for yourself or do you paint to have your artwork seen? Not really talking about selling here.
I like to do exhibits, so people can see my style. This way they will know if I'm the artist they want to paint that special painting they have in mind.
So this week think about your home town, is there anywhere you might be able to hang your work? Get creative here, coffee shops, hotel, offices.....I'm in a Donut Shop!!!! These are not the Big Gallery Museum Shows. This is to reach the public and build a following.
Be inspired, Be Creative,
If you would like to know more about me I invite you to my website,

Time To Get Up. It's Spring
Acrylic
Jean Hart Artwork
Do you know how I know it's spring? Because the carnival has come to Town. I love the carnival. Most of the rides spin so fast by the end of the day I'm so sick!!!!
My favorite ride is the Ferris Wheel. to me there is nothing more fun and scary then rocking in that bucket on top of the wheel. I love that I can still share that with my kids. This year Sarah went with me....I think she thought she was to old for the fair, but she went with me anyways....Secretly I think she she had fun.

Photographing your artwork

Tuesday's Message
Photographing your artwork,
Article IV

Good Morning,
Putting our artwork into contests online is sometimes hard. A lot of times entries can be rejected because our photos of our artwork are not the best quality. They can be blurry, off center or just have poor lighting and can not been seen well.
The best thing I did for myself was to buy a tripod for my camera. ( I'm a little shaky).
Here are some tips to take better photos of your artwork for sharing online or entering a contest.

1.To get the best possible image, take the picture using the most resolution.

2. A Flash will bounce off the painting, So if you can go outside use direct sunlight

3. Small or large painting, try to fill the camera lens with as much of the painting as you can. You can crop l later. I also use a level to make sure it is straight.

4. Use a backdrop. Black is best but white works well too.

5. Take several shots, using backdrops, indoors, outdoors etc. This way you will have more to choose from.

6. If your artwork is small you can scan it and get very good clear images that way.

Hope this was helpful and as always if you have tips on taking photos of your artwork feel free to share.
Smile,
Jean Hart

Stargate Series

Stargate series, Beautiful Passage
Just got back from my post op appt. Good News!!! Stitches are out and I can now shower!!!!Yeah!!! I will have a little physical therapy and then I am good to go.
What a amazing journey I have been on.
The knee surgery------was a breeze.  It was the recovery that was a little hard.
Having my heart rate dip into the 30's gave me a little insight to a different place.
Here is what I experienced when I blacked out. It was a warm, orange and welcoming place. I was not afraid and it was not a frightening place. I wanted to capture the feeling and found that digital art seemed to do it best.
I think that I will work on a few more paintings for this series, just to make record of it.
IT WAS AMAZING...
Thank You Everyone who sent good wishes and warm thoughts. I was in need of them.
Be Inspired,

Knee Surgery/Pink Saturday

 Pink Saturday too.
Thank You everyone for your kind and caring thoughts.
Knee Surgery
I went in for what should have been an easy knee surgery scope for a tear in my cartilage. But between the anestisia, surgery, pain meds. and stress my heart rate went down into the 30's within 24 hours of the surgery while I was at the hotel recovering. My daughter was staying with me and I gave her a terrible fright. I stopped breathing and completely blacked out. She got me back and called 911. I stayed in the hospital for 2 more days and now I'm off to see speacilist about my heart. Went in for one thing came out with something completely different.

Now here is something strange I will share with you. Once I had blacked out, I did not hear anything. I did not hear them shouting at me to breath, sit up, respond in any way. I did not feel them pounding on me, slapping me, shaking me, nothing........What I remember is going to an orange and very warm peaceful place.....I tell you it is easy to die!!!!. I am not afraid of death anymore. However, I am soooooo happy to be alive and home again.

Thank You for your thoughts,

Best Wishes,

~Jean .

What is it that you say about your artwork when people ask you???

May 3, 2011
Good Morning Follow Artists,

I was only gone five days and look at all that has happened???

Congratulations to all the winners of the Spring Art Show 2011. This was a huge competition and helped us to see how many truly talented artists we have in our ArtsCanyon Art Gallery. I am very proud to be among all of you. Many Thanks to Gilbert for his tireless effort and belief in us and giving us such a professional site to exhibit our fine art artwork.

This week Gilbert has asked the winners to write a little about ourselves and are artwork.

I think that is a great idea for all of us to do.

What is it that you say about your artwork when people ask you???

Do you explain HOW you make it, prepare canvas, brushes, paint mixes, or do you explain WHY you choose this subject.

I think another artist might be interested in how you constructed your painting, but if you want someone to be interested and connected to your artwork they may be more interested in What motivated you to paint it.

I do a lot of conceptual artwork. People have gotten use to my paintings having a deep enlightened meaning within them, the subject, the color, texture ect... But sometimes a flower is just a flower, and when that happens, I listen to how my audience comes to me to imply a meaning. That's fun too!

Just something to think about when you write the story of the painting.

Be Inspired, Be Creative, Be Original, Be You,

Preparing for Surgery

Half Of My Heart,
I am preparing for my surgery, which will be tomorrow. So I am asking everyone to come together in a collected consciousness to send me
Best Wishes,
good spirits,
 healing energy
and positive thoughts.

Experiencing life to the full,
May your heart burst full of song,
come together to heal. ..
So that together we can uplift our spirits, in physical well-being.
In my healing cards I came across something I found interesting, I will share some of it simply because It is too long to type the whole thing.
"Although the Psalms are familiar as hymns of praise and expressions of faith in God, they also contain some of the most poignant healing wisdom of the Jewish tradition. Christians have adopted the wisdom of the Psalms and Proverbs along with the rest of the Old Testament, ...........Rabbi Nachman selected ten Psalms that he saw as having a unique power to render complete healing,  He begins with the 16th Psalm,which reads;
My heart rejoiced, my soul delights,
my body too will rest secure, for you
will not abandon me.
You have let me experience the joys of life."

Thank You everyone,
 ~Jean

Feeling alittle blue today

This painting is called. "Play The Hand Your Dealt"
I paint my life and what is going on in it. The lessons I'm constantly learning. When do you get to the place when you have learned enough and just know something????
I love painting, I love art, I look at artwork everyday, I talk about artwork and I read about artists.  When I paint I am in a deep meditation.
Sometimes while I'm painting  I will change a painting as I'm painting it. The painting wants to grow on its own.
Carl Jung did a mandala everyday to keep him centered and that's how I feel when I paint.
You have to play the cards your dealt. It's the way you play the hand dealt to you that counts. It's the lessons we go through. Some are harder than others. This week I am preparing for knee surgery.....Too much time to think.
I'm feeling a little blue today. But good thing I have a great family who will help me.

Here is some moody blues
Enjoy

Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday!!!

My knee surgery is scheduled for Friday the 22 in Salt Lake City.
I am keeping myself busy by preparing the house and meals and ordering books to read.
Go to fullsize imageThanks for all the reading book titles. I ordered 10 new books. All new Authors to me. I figured this is a good time to open myself up to a new point of view and learn something new and fun.

The recovery will not be as bad as it was first told to me.
I will only need crutches for balance and for only the first week. No brace and no physical therapy. The doctor said I will be walking out of the hospital and really walking 3-5 days after surgery. Yeah!!!
So the recovery is much better then I first thought.

I hope you spend it with your family and friends.

Eating an apple a day to help heal. Actually, I have asked my diabetic coach to help me with a meal plan while I recover. I think 2000 or even 1500 cal may be too many for when I'm recovering. Not moving much, bed rest.
I will need a menu that works well with my diabetic plan.

I bet there wont be too many cupcakes on the menu!!!

Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday!!
I was a little late getting this in.
Pedro from KRJC RADIO AND Jean Hart
I donated my painting "Women Within" to the breast cancer event we had in my town of Elko, Nv.
That's Pedro, who somehow got talked into wearing girls genes for the event (I'm pretty sure it was a bet he lost!)....
The event was to Raise money for breast cancer awareness and the cure. It was held at the Red Loin and had lots of booths and a Zumba marathon.....It was fun and I hope everyone here had a chance to come out of support the event.
Go to fullsize image  I have been in deep healing meditation. I twisted my knee and am now going to have a MRI on it and talk to the surgeons. So I will ask me friends here to send positive and healing thoughts my way........
Life can change in a heartbeat and you never know exactly what that change will bring. Years ago I hurt my back....that injury brought me to art. I can tell you honestly not before the accident did I think I would be painting, showing my artwork publicly or selling it!!!!
So life goes on and life changes and I hope life gives you just enough challenge to make it fun and exciting.
So If you can imagine a woman who is now expected to be challenged and blessed again by how she pulls herself together and handles the unexpected.....
Be strong, be brave, be inspired,

What's for dinner?

What's for dinner?
It's time for me to start thinking of healthy eating habits. I'm back to USANA shakes, but really the family can't eat those with me and they still expect something on their dinner plate.
I found this recipe on my diabetes online cookbook. It's still cold here and this sounds like a good warm meal.

Human Poor Life Exhibit

Hello,
I need your help. I need you to vote!!
Many of you know that I am an artist. Recently I became a member of the ArtsCanyon Arts Gallery. It is on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=144730115539102&closeTheater=1

This months theme was "Human Poor Life" we were asked to create a painting about, hunger, poverty and the homeless. A very meaningful theme to say the least. It was a theme that many of us felt strongly about. Our artists come from around the world.  Their lifestyles and talents are reflected in their paintings.
I invite you to stop by ArtsCanyon Art Gallery and see what our very talented artists have painted for the theme "Poor Human Life"
Please take sometime to look over the artwork and  vote.
