Well ahead of his time in the arts.

I have been reading about Paul Cezanne life. Why does art cause so my depression???

He was one of the first in the Impressionists movement, but still had no real success until after years of painting and again once he died.

Why does art create a temperament in painters that they become emotional and filled with self doubt?

It made me sad to read that his life was filled with such despair and sadness.

He is one of my favorite painters.

All the Christmas decoration have been put away with care for next year.
All the reflections on last year were looked at and a list made for the coming year.
Yet, something feels undone.
Something feels just a bit empty, even though I have great plans for the coming year. I have wonderful plans for new paintings. I just feel a little sad today.
Blue Monday really isn't about being sad. It's a display of blue things, paintings and now I guess feelings.
I have set my timer to only write for 30min today....since the only way I know how to get out of a blue mood is by moving. I will have to get to my feet soon.
Picasso had a blue mood period.

I love this time of year. I love going through my calendar book and seeing what I have done all year. It helps me to see that I'm living life and active.

During Christmas break I buy a new date book. I go through it and mark all the important dates and then I start filling in the vacation plans, exhibits I need to rotate and short workshops I want to attend.

RENEWING MY PASSION FOR BEING ALIVE!!!

 What is it you do to Renew your spirit?

The new year is like a blank page and you get to start over, start again, start anew.

My reading list grew to be too long this year. I will have to start a new page.

My painting projects grew to be too many for one year.

Now that I'm able to work out, I'm buying work out clothes that are growing into a big pile too.

One of the things I want to renew is my love of the masters artwork,

It's the excitement of seeing a new piece of artwork for the first time. So my Biography books are now growing too.

We are only here for such a short time and I want to see it all.

But first I must renew my commitment to myself to do the things I love, do the things I must, and do the things I dream of.

Just a quick note, I can no longer reprint this book, "12 Days of Christmas".  So for those that have this book, GOOD NEWS, you own a limited edition.

I spend much of my day looking at art, visiting online museums, and working on my own artwork.

I have often thought that art should bring a response from the viewer. Yes, sometimes I fall to painting a still life only because it brings me the pleasure of painting and doing something productive. After all a pear is only a pear and you can't really respond too emotionally to that.

However, I strongly feel that art should be used to be a representation of history. I like that some art pieces really stop me in my tracks and make me think. I like to ponder over artwork and figure out what the artist is saying in symbol and color. Those pieces give me pleasure as well.

Some artwork can be strong enough to give a viewer a purpose to change an opinion. Strong enough to evoke emotion of change. Hopefully enough to be continued to be viewed.

Some art questions to think about today are;

1. Do you believe people sometimes spend too much time and energy focusing on art, to the neglect of more important matters?

2. Is it enough to receive pleasure from art, or should it also foster a change in spirit?

3. Have you ever seen a painting that moved you so much that you had to share it with everyone you know?

Paintbrushes

Paintbrushes.................................

 

Paint brushes are the basic tools to have when stocking your tool kit.

I think there has not been enough said about the picking and use of the paintbrush.

When you go to the art store there are rows and rows of paint brushes and it can be overwhelming.

I have used cheap brushes only to have them fall apart and leave hairs on my canvas to be permanently part of my painting.

Brushes come in three basic hair types. Soft natural hair bristles are made up of the hair of an animal. these bristles, which are very resilient and hold a good amount of moisture, are an excellent choice for watercolor.

soft synthetic hair bristles are made up of man made fibers and are recommended for acrylic paints. Bristle brushes, which have thick, coarse hair, are best for oil painting and can be either natural or synthetic.

Shapes;

the most common brush shapes, fan, flat, round, and rigger.

For a  beginner you don't need more than these.

try starting with

l. two flats, small and large,

2. three rounds, small, medium, and large

3. fan brush, medium

4. rigger.

Something to think about,

"Use the largest brush you are comfortable with while painting a particular area. This will help you stay loose and avoid painting too much detail."

Receive, to be open to what comes your way.

Too often we are giving, giving so often and so much that we are left empty. We are not taught to receive gifts or compliments. Loosen up your tight grip on what you feel is right or wrong or even polite.

Let yourself receive the rewards or gifts that come your way. There is no shame in doing so. Of course with all gifts there are the Thanks Yous and gratitude's. Learn to be gracious in your receiving and let others have a turn at giving.

When looking towards to world and seeing the devastating conditions everywhere one can only hope to pray for its servival. Past that, in each corner of the painting I have reflected some of the areas that need to be researched. Look towards outer space for the future, the oceans for food, global warming for clean air and the most basic of all resources the soil. So if the world had political stability, environmental quality, hunger and poverty could be fought against now by learning to use are worlds lands better and restore our soils

"The Corners of My Mind"

Acrylic, 8" x 10"  This is the third piece of artwork I created for the poster for the Vagina Monologues.

I was trying hard to figure out what it is that separates each women from each other and the lives they share with the world.

It is true that women wear many faces. It starts when they are young and  innocent, letting their imaginations run free.

As woman  matures some of that innocents fades away.  They must learn to get along, co-exist and change with lives situations.

She will become a  daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, lover, wife, and mother.

Each with its own mask, each with it's own set of rules.

But as I have read many stories about women, their stories have one common thread. Of course, this too might be said for all mankind as well.

We all want to be accepted, we all want to be appreciated, we all want to be loved.

What's on my easel?????

Tea with Rabbit
Since 2011 is the year of the Chinese Metal Rabbit, and I love Rabbits for lots of reasons.
They represent, fertility, abundance, new beginnings.
Rabbits have long been a subject for me to paint and embrace. I expect they will be lots of paintings this year with rabbits in them.
I am learning many lessons this year and top on the list is Stillness, Meditation, Being Calm...the list goes on and on. Often my paintings represent my own life and the lessons I myself are going through.
I welcome you on my journey.
Here is a poem to meditate on.

What happens when you start to believe in yourself?
What happens when you start to put yourself out in the world?
What happens when you do want you want and follow your dreams?
I'm thinking what happens is that you become a better you. But this time around once you believe in yourself your also better for family, friends, and the world.

What's on my Easel

This has been on my easel for awhile. I can't tell if it's done.
It's one of those paintings that you can't stop messing with. I love circles, and mandala's but I have a hard time getting them to be symmetric. I do everything free hand so there's a lot of back and forth work going on.
I like the modern design and the colors are muted which I like as well. It's a big canvas, 4' x 4' and I think I filled it just fine.
All comments are welcome on this one. Like I said I think this one is a work in progress.
